Cooking for Grads

Since Home Ec seems to have fallen off the radar sometime between walkmen and cell phones, many grads have little to no idea how to make their way around the kitchen. Looking for a perfect gift for your fav student? How about a few tasty ideas that’ll keep ‘em off fast food every night?
Since most dorms and starter apartments have little more than a small fridge (with an even smaller freezer) and a microwave, it seems that’s the perfect place to start. Good news is with those two appliances and a package of Plainville Farms deli meats, it’s simple. Here are three quick and easy ideas.
Green Turkey Quesadillas: Place Plainville Farms Smoked Turkey, canned diced green chilies, cheddar cheese and refried beans on one tortilla. Top it with an additional tortilla and microwave on a clean plate for about 1 minute or until cheese is fully melted. Serve with guacamole and salsa so you get those veggies!
White Bean Turkey Soup: Pour 1 (15 oz.) can of chicken broth into a microwavable container. Add chopped Plainville Farms Roasted Turkey or Chicken Breast, frozen corn, canned white beans and some fired roasted canned diced tomatoes. Cover loosely with paper towel and heat on high for 2-4 minutes until hot. Store remaining ingredients in an airtight container and save for the next day.
Teriyaki Turkey Rice: Place frozen rice in a microwavable bowl. Top with frozen broccoli, shredded carrots and chopped Plainville Farms Roasted Turkey. Drizzle with teriyaki sauce, cover loosely with paper towel and heat for 3-4 minutes until hot. Remove from oven and sprinkle with toasted sliced almonds. They’ll never eat cold cereal for dinner again!
