1 cup of rice (cooked)
1 onion (chopped finely)
1 teaspoon of minced garlic
1 egg
1 head of cabbage
Salt and pepper (to taste)
DIRECTIONS
In a large pot over medium heat – cook onions in butter until they are translucent.
When the onions are ready – add in the rest of the sauce ingredients.
Bring this to a simmer and then cook for 10-15 minutes – stirring occasionally.
While the sauce cooks – begin forming the cabbage rolls.
Boil cabbage in a pot for 5 minutes until the leaves can easily peel off the head & then peel off 12 leaves.
In a bowl – combine the rest of the cabbage roll ingredients.
Add 1/2 a cup of the tomato sauce to this bowl.
Form the cabbage rolls by removing the thick stem-like part first.
Roll a heaping amount of the meat mixture into a cooked cabbage leaf.
Repeat this step until all 12 leaves are used.
Preheat oven to 350o and coat a pan large baking dish with cooking spray.
Place half of the tomato sauce on the bottom of the pan and then add the cabbage rolls (seam side down).
Top with the rest of the tomato sauce.
Cover the pan with foil and bake for an hour and a half.
The internal temperature should reach at least 165oF.
Once fully cooked, remove from oven, and let rest for 5 minutes.
Serve and enjoy!
